The following is a representative list of Labs available for adoption through the Dallas | Fort Worth Labrador Retriever Rescue program. On average we have approximately 30 Labs in foster homes. Labs come into the program and are adopted daily, so this is not always a complete listing. All dogs are spayed or neutered and heartworm negative unless otherwise stated. Adoption fees for an adult Lab is $250 and puppies (6 months and under) are $350.

Prior to meeting our available Labs, we require that you complete our adoption approval process which begins with completing the on-line adoption questionnaire. The adoption process is initiated only when we have received a completed application. It is important that you fill out the application completely, incomplete information may delay the process! If you have additional questions, please email adoptions@dfwlabrescue.org.

You may leave a message at 972.881.5544. Please understand, this voice mail is not checked daily; our volunteers typically return calls within five to seven days.

NOTE: Buck's full breed status cannot be definitively determined. He is adoptable for $175.

...I have learned how to give love, understanding and patience. I have learned to play with my own toys and to never bother what is not my own.

Buck -- 10 Year Old Male

My name is Buck...You already know I am 10 years old. I have been with one family for my entire life. I am not sure why they could no longer keep me, but, I know they must miss me. Who could not?

Let me tell you what I have learned in my 10 years. I have learned how to give love, understanding and patience. I have learned to play with my own toys and to never bother what is not my own. I have learned not to jump on furniture (my foster mom lets me up on the ottoman) and I love it! She has invited me up on her bed, but I won't go there. I have learned how to sit patiently when she offers me a treat.I do not "counter surf". I have learned to sit quietly waiting for a loving pat on the head. I sometimes put my paw on her side to let her know how much I love being petting and rubbed (it does not take long). I do not lick or make a pest of myself; maybe I don't have to because she loves to pet on me. I love to lay in the sunshine. I have not jumped in the pool. I really don't have any interest in water, but I stood quietly while I had my bath. I guess you could say I took it like a man!  My coat is sooo soft.

Did I mention That I am a great watch dog??  Nobody is sneaking up here on my watch!

We don't have any other pets here, but I went to the vet and there were four dogs and one cat. I had no problems. My foster Mom wished she had her camera, because I was nose to nose with the cat. He was he same color I am, which is a pretty butterscotch color. By the way, I am only 42 pounds. When I first got here, you could count my ribs. No more, I have a great appetite and have gained a lot of weight. I love to play with tennis balls and I am very good on my leash. No pulling or that other puppy stuff.

Let's talk about crates. There is one here. We use it as a toy box. I do not need to be in a crate.I sleep all night next to her bed, and  I spend a full work day free in the house (she works, I don't). I guess my job is to meet her at the door wagging my tail and letting her know how glad I am to see her. She likes that, and so do I. I have this little dance  that will make you laugh.

Down to the basics. I have a loving, gentle heart, I am a true gentleman (actually, I am shy, but very friendly). I would love  to share a gentle home environment with gentle, loving people. I promise I will be your "bestest" friend.

P.S.  I have never had an "accident" in the house.  See what a good boy I am?

Dillon has a great attitude and loves life!

Dillion -- 2 Year Old Male

Dillon is a great chocolate Lab! He is so sweet, super affectionate and just wants to be around you. He gets along with any person and any dog (does great with our two Labs). The big difference between Dillon and other Labs is he only has three legs. His front left leg was recently amputated after he was found wandering around and his leg was paralyzed. He was taken to the pound and was on death row when he was rescued. The vet thinks he was probably run over and that is why his leg was paralyzed. His leg and shoulder region were irreparable and had to be taken off. In spite of that Dillon has a great attitude and loves life! He has adapted well to walking on three legs, a daunting task considering he weighs about 90 pounds.

Dillon needs a home that doesn't consider him as disabled but special! He is crate trained, mostly house trained and we are currently working on teaching him the sit command. He is very eager to learn and makes a great pupil. Please contact us for a meeting if you think Dillon would be a great addition to your family.

Delilah still has moments of "puppy" personality...

Delilah -- 1 Year Old Female

Meet sweet Delilah (aka "Lila")... At first we thought that her name might be a little too "sweet" for her, but actually, it suits her perfectly! She is an extremely calm, well-mannered, 1 year old little girl. She is housebroken, crate trained, and gets along great with other dogs. She still has moments of "puppy" personality (like when we first come home after a long day), but for the most part, she is content to lie at our feet (or rest her head in a lap). She loves to play with her foster sister (another Lab), and they have become best of friends.

Lila didn't seem to know how to "play" when she first arrived, but she is a quick learner and is now enjoying all the fun of being a Lab! She has very little training, and will still need to work on basic commands and leash manners after she is adopted. She is eager to please her "people", and is easy to train. Lila would be great as a sister to another dog, or as the only dog (where she can get all the love she deserves). She has never met a stranger, and will settle quickly into a new home. We have completely fallen in love with her, and are looking for just the right forever home for this special girl.

Tiger can play keep away better than an NFL running back, and swim with the grace of an Olympian!

Tiger -- 5 Year Old Male

L-O-V-E and F-U-N are what I have to share with you!  With a face like this and a charming personality to match, I expect to have a full social calendar until I find my forever home.

My foster family has loved having me as a guest because I'm great with their dog (a DFWLRR success story), keeping him busy with hours of play. Did I mention that I'm a very active boy, even at my age (which is 5)? My foster family can't believe how athletic I am—I can play keep away better than an NFL running back and I swim with the grace of an Olympian. I'm big (90 pounds!), surprisingly fast, and agile! I'd do great in a home with another dog, but I'd do just fine getting all the love to myself.

I have met a few children at the Meet-N-Greet in Highland Village and at Home Depot and I thought they were pretty neat. I think the feeling was mutual! My foster family doesn't think I'm overly interested in kitties or small animals, but I'd have to meet yours if you already have a feline friend. I'm house and crate trained and I'm working on the basics (sit, down, stay, and leash walking) and I'm a fast learner.

I have a clean bill of health and I'm ready to join your family!

Amira -- 13 Week Old Female (As of 4/12) Puppy

"Cute as a bug" is what the folks say about me. I just want to play all the time--and even like the games of sit and stay. Potty training isn't my favorite sport--but I have progressed enough so I even slept on a people bed. My hobbies are kids and cats--but the one in my foster home doesn't like to play much.

I just want to send my thanks to Amber, the animal control officer, who found me dirty and in the street, and who set me on the path to being a happy, healthy Lab
.

When you are petting her, her whole body moves when she wags her tail.

Lexus -- 8-10 Year Old Female

From Lexus' M-n-G transporter: I've had the pleasure of taking Lexus to a few M-n-G's. She's been a great girl, who is a little shy at first and in new surroundings, but when she's home, her tail never stops wagging. When you are petting her, her whole body moves when she wags her tail. She loves to be loved on. She's a happy girl!!! She discovered the stairs in my house and at first was timid of going up and then coming back down. She mastered that skill quickly. She gives very delicate kisses; no sloppy slurps from this gal! Lexus is a petite young lady. We've even considered that she is much younger than her 8-10 yrs of age and closer to 5 yrs. Even with a little bit of gray on her face, she's an active girl, who will enjoy going for walks and being near you! She went on a Home Study visit a few weeks ago, and visited a family that had a pool. Lexus jumped right in and was happy as a clam to be swimming, even if the temp of the pool and the air was a bit chilly. She had so much fun running with the resident dogs during the home study too. She was in the lead and had 3 boys (Labs) chasing after her! Every girl should be so lucky to choose from three handsome men!! Don't miss out on meeting this little girl. She's looking for a home to call her own!

I have a lot of love to give to my new forever family.

Lotus -- 4-5 Year Old Male

Hi my name is Lotus and I am one of the last of the Hard Knocks crew to be taken into a foster home. I am adjusting well to my new life. So many new experiences in becoming a true Lab. I am still a little hesitant around new people, but get along great with my new foster sister. I even manage to get the tennis ball from her sometimes and bring it back to my foster dad. I also managed to figure out my foster sister's doggie door the first few minutes at my new home. I did have a few marking accidents in the house the first couple of days. But no accidents since then. I still am not sure about that crate. My foster dad is working on that with me. I like to take walks and I'm getting better with my leash skills. My foster dad is working with me on new commands. Sit is the only one I have mastered so far. I haven't chewed any thing in the house, except the doggie toys in the box. I like to get all the toys out. My foster dad wishes I would learn to put them back. But what dog ever cleans up? I don't really like puppies. They are a little over bearing. So I think I would be better behaved in a home with an older dog. I haven't met any cats or young children yet. So I am not sure how I will like them. I do like to follow my foster dad around the house and put my head on his lap for ear rubs. I also lay by his feet when he is being lazy around the house. The first few years of my life were rough, but since those people came and took me from that bad place my life has gotten better every day. I am really starting to enjoy my new life as a "house" Lab. I have a lot of love to give to my new forever family. If you would like to meet me, my foster dad will be happy to bring me for a visit. Or you can check our site and see which meet and greet I will attend.

NOTE: Noel's actual size and coloring at maturity and full breed status cannot be definitively determined due to her young age and lack of parental history. She is adoptable for $175.

Noel -- 11 Month Old Female
Hello everyone!! Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born into the world in the normal way. No need to rehash that, we all know the drill. I spent the first 5 months with a family and things were going well. I would talk to my doggie friends, and they would mentioned the words “veterinarian” and “shots”. They said these “shot” things hurt. I thought they were crazy, I had never even heard these words in my house. Well, come about 5 months or so on this planet and aha… I found out why I needed those “shots” my doggie friends talked about. Because I had not had them, I started to feel bad and nothing wanted to stay in my tummy!! My family rushed me to that “veterinarian” word and alas, they said I had Parvo. Apparently, this is a bad thing and could have possibly been prevented, but I was one of the unlucky babies who did not have my “shots”. Apparently, it was going to cost a lot of money to make me better, and my family couldn’t afford it, so I was left alone at the “veterinarian” office with the word “Euthanize” looming over my head. But...as luck would have it, I have a guardian angel. My foster mommy got a call at 11pm on a Saturday night, and she was able to talk her Lab Rescue friends into saving me! Apparently, she doesn’t have a very busy social life, but I probably shouldn’t be mean. Without her I wouldn’t be here. DFW Lab Rescue paid for my Parvo treatment which was horrendous and caused me to sleep A LOT, but I made it through and here I am today talking to you. I am all better and back to my spunky self. I have had my “shots”, something about a rabies vaccination and even got spayed!! I have no heartworms and my foster mommy gives me a pill so I am “protected”… another one of those big words!! I sleep in my crate and am well on my way to being house trained. I bark at my foster mommy when I need to go out and potty. She says I am good because I have only had one accident in the house. I love all my foster doggie brothers and sisters. I also have a foster kitty sister and she is very interesting, but I pretty much leave her alone. Foster mommy does not like for me to try and get on top of her to play, but foster kitty holds her own. I am now about 7 months old, and ready for my forever home!! I will need my “shots” once a year and will also need to keep taking my other pills to keep the heartworms away, but other than that I am healthy as a horse and growing like a weed. I am also very cute and cuddly, and could be your lap dog, if you so desire. My foster mommy is happy to drive me to your house to meet you, so please call her so I can give you the best puppy kisses ever!! One last thing, a nice lady at the “veterinarian” drove me across town when I was very sick and delirious. I did not get a chance to thank her, so I just wanted to send her an angel wish to let her know how much I appreciate her help to save me.

NOTE: Redd's full breed status cannot be definitively determined. He is adoptable for $175.

A puppyish boy in a really large body...

Redd -- 7-9 Year Old Male

Redd has become Mr. Personality since joining our foster home. He is very, very, VERY tall for a Lab, weighs in at a healthy 128 lbs., and can rest his chin on the dining room table to see if there is anything he needs. He is very unashamed about his quickness, in fact he shows it off by grabbing any paper item, or socks, that I have in my hand. Funny, those are his two things, paper items and socks. Sure makes getting ready for work interesting! I have come home to find a few shredded socks in his bed with him. He loves to carry around little stuffed "babies", but eventually kills them with a big smile and a wag. We're working on discouraging this behavior, while working on not laughing out loud at how cute he is. A puppyish boy in a really large body, gotta love it. He doesn't jump up on people, and we've seen little evidence of counter surfing. I've learned to keep the sock-drawer shut at all times.

Redd is good with all the dogs in his foster home, small/large and young/old. He loves to eat, and will spread food about the floor with enthusiasm. Same with drinking water. He's just so happy to be in a loving home that he can't control his exuberance! Redd is totally free in the house both day and night. We have a doggy door that he has to duck into since he's so tall, but that hasn't stopped him from keeping all outside activities outside!   He hasn't had an accident in the month he's been here. But don't forget about your socks!

Redd is on thyroid medicine that he'll need to take the rest of his life. He's testing out some calming medicine that will help him break his habit of licking his foot (he has a lick granuloma on one ankle). The cost of the meds is very low when you think of his beautiful smiling face! He loves to be petted, and will put his huge head in your lap so you won't forget him. Due to his size, Redd will probably not be the best match for households with children under 13 or so, unless they can handle his slobbery kisses and big wagging tail without fear.

Please make an appointment to see this great boy, he really wants a forever home!

I am a super sweet, loving and very easy boy.

Ace -- 1 Year Old Male

IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW... I think you would say WOW!! It is Ace here with an update. Sorry I disappeared for a while...I had a terrible time with allergies and just did not feel well. The good news is thanks to the efforts of so many people, I am finally feeling great and I am a very happy boy!!

I have a lot of food allergies but with the right diet and some meds, I am finding that I can have a very normal life. My skin is clearing up and I never scratch or bite myself anymore. I also finally have the energy of a young Lab. I play and run with my foster siblings all the time. I am finally getting so much stronger in my legs and I feel well enough to exercise for significant amounts of time! I stand, walk and run all the time. I can finally keep up with my 1 year old sis!! Yippee! Of course, I will never have the graceful stride of a normal Lab but I think you will be impressed to see how much better I move now!

If you want an easy, loving and playful boy please give my foster parents a call or stop by a Meet n Greet. I think you will be impressed with my progress!

Adopted!
Abbott -- 3 Year Old Male

Abbott is an absolutely GORGEOUS Lab! You know the one's that you see on calendars with the big, block heads? Yep, that’s him.

Abbott has a playful, yet mild temperament and gets along well with his foster brother and sister Labs. He is housebroken, crate trained (although he does bark a bit at first), sits, shakes, and loves his belly rubbed. He rides great in the car – just lies down and enjoys the ride.

Abbott would be a great addition to almost any family. I think he would REALLY enjoy getting to go to his forever home with his brother, Costello, who is currently with another foster family.

Adoption Pending!

Coe -- 4 Year Old Male

Coe is young chocolate Lab who is looking for a special home. He is housebroken and enjoys going for car rides. Coe will most likely need to be an only dog and will need someone who will be dedicated to working with him on leash. It would be best for him to be in a single family home - as opposed to a townhouse or apartment - where he can have the space all to himself and enjoy his very own yard while playing with the family. He is great with people and strongly prefers their company to that of other dogs - he is a one dog fellow! While he does well with older kids one-on-one, he will need a family who will be consistent with him so the kids would need to be able to participate in Coe's nurturing alongside their parents. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more about him.

Cash is currently being treated for heartworms, and upon completion of his treatment, he will move to his forever home!

Brownie

Age: 2 years
Sex: Male
Color: Chocolate

 Pending Transfer to GAP!

Click here for a larger picture!Click here for a larger picture!Brownie is a big bundle of energy. He weighs 66 pounds and is a rich dark chocolate color, You can tell from his photo that he appear almost black when photographed. Brownie was rescued from Arlington and spent several days at the Vet recovering from a bad cough. He also needed to gain weight. This is all behind him now and he is settling into a routine. I think he was around people who really didn't play with him or have much interaction. He will countersurf and may nip at your hand if he believes you have food. I remind him to go easy and this becoming less of a problem. Brownie has gone on several long car trips and he rides just fine. He will sleep/stay in his kennel without a peep, but really wants out to be with people. Kongs are his favorite things and he will chew on them for hours (what a noise). Brownie will play fetch with the tennis ball and will bring it back (almost). He would prefer to run back to you and then tease you with the ball hoping you will chase. Finally he will drop the ball and hope for another throw. He is now house broken but we watch him so he doesn't get into things if the toys are put away. A new owner will need to attend Obedience training because he still acts very young and has a lot of energy that needs to be focused. If you want a dog that will swim, lay his head in your lap and kinds thinks he is a lap dog, consider meeting Brownie.

Costello -- 3 Year Old Male

Who's on first? Why Costello, of course!

I am a 'lovador' Lab. I want nothing more than to be with a family who has lots of affection to give. Kids, dogs--the more the merrier! I love everyone. I am good in the house, great in the car and easy on the eyes. Even the vet thought I was handsome, and he has seen lots of Labs. I can sit on command.

My foster family is helping me get back into shape after gaining some extra weight in the shelter. Soon I will be back at my idea weight of 80 pounds. That's a bit hard since I had heartworm treatment and am on crate rest. However, I am hoping my social life will improve as I make my debut at a local Meet N Greet - please watch for me! Oops gotta go--another person wants to snuggle with me!

Costello will be available for adoption once he has completed heartworm treatment.
