If Your Pet Has Disappeared...

  1. Immediately telephone your animal control shelters within a large radius to file a lost pet report.
  2. Visit the local shelters every 24 hours to see if your animal is there.
  3. Advertise in the classified section of your local newspaper. (There are also hot lines listed in the lost and found section of the classified in the Dallas Morning News to call in about your missing pet.)
  4. Post fliers with photos in all public places such as grocery stores, community centers, churches, vet clinics, etc. CAUTION: To deter potential scams, leave out one identifying characteristic that can be described by the finder.
  5. The best time to search the neighborhood is in the early morning hours and around sunset. Ask neighbors to keep an eye out for your pet. Post fliers throughout your neighborhood.
  6. DON'T GIVE UP! Animals that have been lost for months have been reunited with their owners.
