Dallas | Fort Worth Labrador Retriever Rescue Club, Inc. (DFWLRRC) strives to save as many lives as possible from our local area shelters. Our organization successfully saves and places approximately 150 Labrador Retrievers each year in new homes. As a not for profit 501c3 organization, DFWLRRC functions solely through donations, fundraisers and volunteer/foster programs. Without the support of many generous individuals and organizations, we would not be able to save this many precious lives each year.
We are excited to announce that we are holding our first annual timed 5K race and 1M fun run/walk "Run for Retrievers" on May 22, 2010. This fundraiser will help DFWLRRC raise the necessary funds for Labradors in need throughout the metroplex. In addition, we are honoring the memory of a long time foster/volunteer of our organization and hope that in doing so we can not only raise funds to save more precious Labrador lives, but we can also help raise awareness on gastrointestinal cancers which will help save human lives.
The veterinary and dog related expenses that we incur each year are nearly $100,000 and growing. Our average vetting cost per dog is over $500. Our cost for one heartworm positive dog is $300.00 and that does not include vaccinations, laboratory work, microchipping and any required surgeries. Additionally, in an effort to keep to market rates, we only request a $250 donation at the time of adoption for our Labradors. Making it necessary for our organization to hold fundraisers such as this one, which will enable us raise the additional $250/dog required to get our Labradors healthy enough for adoption.
